German Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Saturday slammed Israel’s actions in Gaza, explaining its military operation in Rafah as contrary to worldwide law.
“The scarcity, the suffering of the Palestinian population and the attacks in the Gaza Strip are – as we are now seeing in court – incompatible with worldwide law,” Habeck stated in Berlin, describing a judgment by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) getting in touch with Israel to end its offensive in Rafah.
Habeck stated that the German federal government thinks “that Israel should not perform this attack, a minimum of not in the method it carried out in the Gaza Strip in the past, battle refugee camps and so on.”
Speaking at a celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of Germany’s Basic Law, Habeck explained that the Palestinian militant group Hamas might end the war right away if it put down its weapons.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday likewise restated cautions versus a massive Israeli military offensive in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
“Our declaration is that warfare should constantly be carried out in such a method that it appreciates the guidelines of worldwide law,” stated Scholz at a public conversation in Potsdam, near Berlin.
“That is why we have actually constantly been extremely clear in stating that we cannot think of an offensive in Rafah without dreadful, reckless human losses,” he included.
