A high school baseball player choked his teammate on a bus, causing him to go unconscious, Missouri authorities say.

Kaden Johnson, 18, is accused of assaulting his juvenile teammate Monday, April 8, as they were on a school bus traveling home from a game, according to a probable cause statement filed in Sullivan County.

The two are students at Green City High School, about a 135-mile drive northeast of Kansas City, KTVO reported.

A student on the bus captured video of the assault, which showed Johnson wrap an elastic band across the victim’s neck, authorities said. It’s unclear what led to the assault.

Johnson pulled on the elastic, which led the victim to fall out of his seat onto the floor, according to the complaint.

The victim was shown in the video to be not moving as Johnson dragged him across the bus alley, then slapped him on his face, authorities said.

Johnson eventually removed the elastic band from the victim’s neck and the victim moved back to his seat, a Sullivan County deputy wrote in the probable cause statement.

The deputy later interviewed the victim, who said the incident caused him to lose consciousness, court records show.

Johnson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said. He was jailed on a $25,000 cash bond.

“Due to confidentiality laws, the district is not able to comment regarding student discipline issues,” Green City R-1 Schools Superintendent Tennille Banner said in a statement to KTVO. “The district fully investigates situations and follows the discipline policies as prescribed in the student handbook and board policy.”
