Kansas City police said a motorist was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash at 63rd Street and Hardesty Avenue.

Police were called to the crash scene around 5:20 p.m. and found a silver Chevrolet Equinox that had overturned.

According to a preliminary investigation, police said the driver was speeding westbound on 63rd Street when they failed to maneuver the curve along the roadway.

The vehicle drove off the right side of road, struck a concrete drainage culvert and overturned, according to a Kansas City Police Department news release.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partly ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police did not immediately report how fast the vehicle was traveling prior to the crash.

There was no one else in the vehicle. Police have not released the name, gender or age of the victim.

Police said the driver’s death is 32nd traffic fatality so far this year in Kansas City. There were 18 vehicular fatalities reported during the same period in Kansas City a year ago.
