The Lexington Police Department has identified the three officers involved in a shooting that left a 47-year-old man dead.

Officers Timothy Dawson, Michael Martin and Seiver Tandy are on administrative assignment while Kentucky State Police investigate the shooting, according to a LPD news release Monday. Kentucky State Police gave LPD authorization to release the information.

Dawson retired from the department after 19 years of service. He returned eight months ago under the Police Officer-R Program.

Martin has served with the department for 10 months. Tandy has served for three years, according to the news release.

The three officers responded to the 200 block of Regency Point Path on April 2 for a report of a disorder involving a man with a weapon. They reported the man had a gun.

Shots were fired and the man was struck, LPD said. Initially no details were released about who fired the shots. No officers were injured, according to LPD.

No details on what happened between when officers arrived on-scene and when shots were fired have been released. LPD said the three officers had their body-worn cameras activated during the incident.

Kentucky State Police’s Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the shooting, as is typical when law enforcement officers are involved in shootings.

“To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case,” KSP said in a press release.

LPD will also conduct an internal review of the shooting, the department said.

This is the second shooting involving an LPD officer this year. Just over one month ago, three men reportedly opened fire on a Lexington police detective who was conducting surveillance in an unmarked vehicle.
