Loretta Carr faces death penalty for allegedly pushing mom off cliff

Prosecutors in Alabama have decided to seek the death penalty against Loretta Carr, a 44-year-old woman accused of pushing a mom off a cliff and to her death.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office issued a notice to the court last week, notifying the judge of its intentions to pursue Carr’s execution if she is convicted of capital murder, reports WAFF.

Carr is being held without bond after being indicted for the murder of mother Mary Elizabeth Isbell, 37.

Authorities allege Carr kidnapped Isbell before and forcing her off a cliff and into Little River Canyon in Fort Payne.

It is unclear how the women knew each other.

Carr’s daughter, Jessie Eden Kelly, is also charged with capital murder for her alleged role in Isbell’s death.

Isbell was reported missing to the Hartselle Police Department and DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office in late 2021.

Her remains were discovered by a search team on June 28, 2023, at Little River Canyon National Park.

Either Carr or Kelly led police to the location of Isbell’s body.

Carr was arrested on June 25, 2023, and has pleaded not guilty, according to online court records.

Kelly has been extradited to Alabama. At the time of her arrest, she was in custody in Pennsylvania, but it was unclear why.
