MANITOWOC – Military veterans from Two Rivers who lost their lives in war will be remembered during a special ceremony May 22.

City leaders, in partnership with the Robert E. Burns Post 165 of The American Legion and the VFW Post 1248 of Two Rivers, will host the event at 9:30 a.m. at Central Park East in the city’s downtown. The ceremony will commemorate the 62 heroes from Two Rivers who lost their lives in conflicts spanning from the U.S. Civil War through Operation Iraq Freedom.

Utility pole banners, each bearing the name of a fallen Two Rivers soldier, will also be installed throughout the park during the event.

“It is essential that we never forget the sacrifices made by the men and women who bravely served our nation,” City Manager Greg Buckley said in a news release. “Through events like these, we honor their memory and ensure their legacy lives on.”

The ceremony is free and open to the public. Buckley said area veterans and residents are encouraged to attend and show support for veterans. Call 920-793-5532 or send an email to liskue@two-rivers.org for information.
