VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — A wildfire that required countless homeowners from their homes in western Canada’s oil sands center of Fort McMurray previously this month is now under control, Alberta authorities stated Wednesday.
Alberta wildlife authorities stated the blaze stays less than 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from the neighborhood and has to do with 190 square kilometers (118 square miles) in size.
About 6,600 homeowners in 4 areas were purchased out for numerous days as strong winds whipped flames near the neighborhood.
The rest of those in the city of 68,000 were informed they might need to leave on brief notification. Those who were informed to leave were able to return days later on.
The reason for the fire stayed under examination.
For some, the blaze revived hard memories of 2016, when wildfires required a mass evacuation of the city and burned more than 2,000 homes.
